Transport, passenger & freight, public & private, is responsible for a substantial fraction of carbon dioxide & other pollution. This podcast suggests a multipart solution, including electric cars, more rail (both passenger & freight) & road freight mainly restricted to last mile:

Electronic stability control laws force Blade to switch from cars to commercials

New laws requiring cars to have electric stability control mean that Blade will cease production of cars & swap to commercials in 18 months.
