Light-coloured cars are up to 2 percent more fuel efficient than dark-coloured ones

No surprise* that a light coloured car will be cooler than a dark coloured one.  Interesting, though, to see it quantified in terms of air conditioning & fuel consumption.
 
 
* No surprise to anyone other than Chevrolet – the roof of every Chevrolet Volt is black.  In Europe the principle seems to have been understood – the roof of the Ampera (European version of the Volt) is the same colour as the rest of the body.

Varley evR450: Aussie electric supercar

Interesting: top speed of 200kph, 0-100 kph in 3.8s but a range of only 150km on a single charge, although the company is said to be looking at offering a 300 km battery version.

Tesla: We’re making a new 2015 roadster, plus BMW 3-Series beaters

Tesla has future plans for:

  • Model S luxury sedan (pre-production examples have already been demonstrated);
  • Model X crossover;
  • SUV;
  • van;
  • cabriolet;
  • new roadster in 2015, built on a shortened Model S chassis; &
  • a mass market car in the next 4 to 5 years on the shortened Model S chassis.

Want a long range electric car? Nissan doesn't think you do

Nissan is pushing the self serving view that because the Leaf is used for journeys with an average length of 37 miles, there is no demand for an electric car with longer range.
